We meet twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening, from September to June, at 7pm. The first Tuesday meeting includes a catered dinner for $20, followed by the business meeting. The schedule may be changed around holidays and for other reasons.
Always check the calendar far the latest schedule.
Expenses to be incurred on behalf of the Club should be pre-approved by a member of the executive. Please bring your receipt to the treasurer for reimbursement.
There are many opportunities for you to help make our fundraising efforts even more successful. To add your support for a particular event, you can sign up using the calendar, raise your hand at a meeting, or talk directly to the event lead person. Extra hands are always welcome!
One way to add your name to a volunteer crew is to sign up using the calendar. Here’s how:
- Go to the BLN calendar page using the navigation menu at the top of this page
- Find the event you wish to volunteer for.
- Click it and then click the SignUp button at the top right
- Fill in your name and click send. The email address is not required.

Training
While we do not require the food safety certification for you to work in the kitchen, it is helpful for you to have become certified. We encourage you to complete this course.
The Food Safety certification is offered by the WorkSite Safety organization, and is valid in Ontario and some other provinces. This is an online, self-paced, no time limit course. The Verona Lions will reimburse the cost ($25 plus tax) to you upon successful completion. Please bring your receipt to the treasurer for reimbursement.
Here is the link to the online course: Food Handler Certification
Note: Add the course to the shopping cart, proceed to checkout, fill in all the fields and check out. You will receive the link to start the course via email.
To work in our bar, or any bar, you must have successfully completed the Smart Serve online course. This takes about 4 hours. All the details are here: Smart Serve Ontario. If you get lost browsing their website, it’s the Smart Serve Full course we need.
The Verona Lions will reimburse the full cost to you after successful completion. Please bring your receipt to the treasurer for reimbursement.
Our members volunteer at Play Gaming and Entertainment on a regular basis. Our club receives a generous amount of revenue from this source, and we highly encourage you to participate.
Volunteering consists of being available on-site for a 2 hour shift, and generally being helpful by clearing up plates and trays from the Bingo players, and returning them (the trays not the players!) to the kitchen area.
In order to volunteer you need to have completed their online training program, which takes about 30 minutes. This is followed up by accompanying a Lions member on a shift, to see first hand what is required. After that you are ready to go!
